Archie Backpack - Sept 13 & 27



The pattern is included in the class fee and you can pick it up at the shop any time before the first date of class so you know what materials and supplies you need.

This class requires intermediate bag-making knowledge including adding zippers, working with bag hardware, using foam and quilting a quilt sandwich.

In this Intermediate class you will make the Archie Backpack by Knot & Thread.  Finished Size: 14-1/2in x 12-1/2in x 4-1/2in

This class is 2 Saturdays from 9am - 1pm.

Class 1: We will make the bias binding, inside divided pocket, handle, hardware tabs, and shoulder straps.  We will also quilt make a quilt sandwich to make all of the exterior pieces.

Class 2: We will make and attach the zippered top strip and zippered front pocket, attach the laptop sleeve and inside divided pocket, attach the handle and shoulder straps and finally, assemble the backpack.


In addition to the materials and supplies needed to make the Archie Backpack, please bring the following to each class:

  • Sewing machine in good working order.  Don't forget your foot pedal and power cord!
  • Walking Foot - This is a must for this class as you will be sewing through foam and webbing.  I recommend practicing attaching and using your walking foot ahead of class.
  • Zipper Foot - There are 2 zippers you will attach and you will need a zipper foot to do so.  I recommend practicing attaching and using your zipper foot ahead of class. 
  • Matching thread for topstitching the main and lining fabrics
  • Clips, which are a huge help when making bags, pins, removable fabric-marking pen/pencil, rulers, rotary cutter, scissors, cutting mat, sewing machine needles (Schmetz Microtex size 90 are recommended)
  • Small iron and iron mat, optional
