BM102: Hemingway Pouch - Dec 11
In this course, we will be making the large version of the Hemingway Pouch by Center Street Quilts. The large pouch finishes at 9” x 12”.
Instructor: Ann Baker
Experience: I have been sewing quilts and bags for 24 years. I took an introduction to quilting class in NH in 2000 and have found so much joy, creativity, and friendship in the quilting community. I am grateful for the opportunity to share my love of bag making with you at Wildflower Quilting Co.
Materials for Large Hemingway Pouch:
Main Fabric |
Fat Quarter |
Lining Fabric |
Fat Quarter |
Accent Fabric |
¼ yard |
Foam Stabilizer (such as Bosal In-R-Foam or byAnnie Soft and Stable) |
21” x 18” |
Zipper |
24” or longer** |
Coordinating thread |
|
** I recommend using byAnnie 24” zippers which we carry in the shop. Another option is zippers by the yard.
This is a single evening class for 3 hours.
During this class you will press and cut your fabrics and learn how to machine quilt the Main Fabric, Foam, Lining Fabric together. You will attach a zipper and attach bindings which adds a nice finish to the outside and inside of the pouch.
Additional items to bring to class
-
Sewing machine. You should be familiar with how your machine works including how to wind and load the bobbin, change the sewing feet, and thread the needle. Don’t forget the cord and pedal.
-
Ruler, rotary cutter, marking tool, pins, clips, extra needle(s), scissors
-
Sewing Feet. If you have a walking foot, it will make quilting the Main Fabric, Foam, Lining Fabric easier. It is okay if you do not have a walking foot, you can use other feet for this step such as a ¼” or straight stich foot.
-
Zipper Foot. Definitely bring your zipper foot. This foot typically comes with your machine. It will make a big difference to have this when you are attaching the zipper. It will look similar to the images below.
